The Iced Spiced Toddy

The Iced Spiced Toddy

Although the Autumnal Equinox arrived September 22nd this year, there’s no chance of feeling fall until at least mid-October here in the Arizona desert. We don’t blame the people who waste no time to roll out a fall menu and decor. It’s hot. Summer, we’re done with you.

Instead of hopping on the Pumpkin Spice bandwagon, we want to embrace this last bit of whatever the hell this season should be called. If you ask us if we make a Pumpkin Spice anything, we will graciously lead you to our favorite signature flavor for Fall, Spiced Honey.

Spiced Honey

Spiced Honey was designed for cooler weather cocktails but we liked it so much in coffee, we kept it around all year. It’s made with a desert honey and five different spices that are similar to chai. Since it is a syrup, it dissolves easily with ice for shaken cocktails, lemonades, or margaritas.

Like everyone else, we too have been waiting for the authentic Spiced Honey season and it is here…kinda. That’s why we will be equipping you with a cocktail recipe that works hot or iced. We’ll celebrate the warm spices over a unique cube that hits all the right seasonal notes without being hot.

For this recipe, we are using a rye whiskey. Rye has the spice to contrast the sweet honey and also supports the blend we use to enhance the desert honey. We made some Spice Cubes which is simply a star anise pod frozen into a cube that will give your cocktail an extra fall kick with the chill it deserves.

This simple cocktail recipe can be served in a mug with hot water for a traditional Hot Toddy or with a spice cube. Either way, it still has all the fall flavors that you are craving.

ICED SPICED TODDY

To make the cocktail, combine all in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled and strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with a Spice Cube.

To make the Spice Cube, fill an ice mold halfway with water and place a star anise pod on top. Freeze half way first. This will assure your garnish will freeze in the middle of the cube. After solid, fill the mold the rest of the way.

Grab a bottle of Spiced Honey and get ready for the holidays! Don’t worry, we will start celebrating the right way with our Fall Seasonal, Cranberry Thyme that comes out October 16th this year.

Cheers!
