You wouldn’t think we’d have access to so many great ingredients in the desert, right? But we certainly do! We are all about supporting Arizona makers for our cocktail recipes. It’s the best part of the job to explore all the different products Arizona has to offer. Down to the spirits, glassware, and even coasters, there are so many cool items we wanted to feature for some seasonally special cocktails.
In this blog post, we’re giving you a reason to drink for all the upcoming holidays and support local businesses here in Arizona. Enjoy a new #ShopLocalAZ blog series that we’ll be sharing the next couple of months with four new cocktail recipes!
There are great places to pick up ingredients in the valley. For this series of cocktails, I started out at Sphinx Date Co in Scottsdale to buy Sonoita Vineyards Sparkling Brut and AZ Bitters Lab Figgy Pudding Bitters. Sphinx Date Co. is known for their dates but also has a fresh collection of time-honored farm and artisan sourced products in their hand-picked Arizona pantry. Swing by this season to find something new and stock up on Iconic Mixers.
For any and all home good needs, definitely stop by UrbAna. They are located in Arcadia but have a small shopping section on their website if you’re interested in browsing some of their products. We wanted to pick out the perfect glassware to serve a sparkling wine cocktail and I knew UrbAna would have it! I think their collection of glassware is easily my favorite section. I even picked up some coasters designed by local ceramicist, Lafayette Avenue Ceramics.
Something you can’t find at any shop are these locally blown glasses that we used for the Autumn Elixir. You would have to find Mike Butzine’s work in the wild on a First Friday. But this is just a friendly reminder to support local artists whenever you can! Especially this holiday season.
For fresh ingredients to create holiday cocktails with local goods, we always hit up our neighborhood farmers market. Supporting farms is a big deal and we love being able to shop close to home from companies we believe in. Any time we can, we will use fresh basil in cocktails and love what Blue Sky Farms grows! It made all the difference in our Cactus Christmas recipe. If you’re in search of any seasonally special produce always start at the Uptown Farmers Market and explore all the different farmers.
Down the street, check out the Phoenix Public Market where you can even find more goodies like our new friends at Shrubwell who make fresh shrubs that are wonderful in cocktails. Made as a vinegar base cocktail mixer, these shrubs are great on their own or complement our line of Iconic Mixers! We loved using them for our Brass Bubbles recipe.
As for spirits, some of our favorites we are using this season include OHSO Distilleries that you can actually find at the Gilbert Farmers Market this season! Adventurous Stills and Caskwerks both have their own distilleries located in Tempe where you can purchase their unique spirits directly from them. For any wine and beer, shop at Arcadia Premium (they even deliver!)
We encourage you to get creative with your cocktails this holiday season and support local the best you can! Enjoy some new fall and winter cocktails on our recipes page and stay tuned for more information about each one for this #ShopLocalAZ Blog Series!
